A boy named David Okon,14 years of age was reportedly killed for refusing to join to a cult group.
One cultist identified simply as Ita was said to have tried luring Okon to join the ‘Skylo” cult group at 'T' junction, Ikot Ekpo, 8 Miles Calabar,
Cross Rivers state but he refused, which led to his death.
Speaking to newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Henry Fadairo, described the incident as terrible.
According to him, the Skylo cult group had been pressuring Okon for several months to join them but he declined. On that fateful day in February, they allegedly chased him in the night and stabbed him to death.
The suspect, Ita has been arrested by the Cross Rivers state police command.
Confessing to his crime, he said: “I am a member of ‘Skylo’ group. We used to terrorize Calabar residents.
“When Okon was called to join the Skylo group, we started putting pressure on him to join. When he was adamant by refusing to join us, we had to murder him by stabbing him at the back.”
According to Mr. Ganiyu Salami, the assistant commissioner of police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Skylo and another cult group, Columbo boys, were strong cultist groups terrorizing residents of Calabar before they were unmasked. The police commissioner said the suspected cultists would soon be charged to court.
