The Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles have emerged as champions in the 19th Africa Youth Championships after defeating host Senegal 1-0 in a thrilling final MATCH on Sunday night at the 45,000-capacity Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium.

A stunning goal from Bernard Bulbwa in the first half saw Nigeria lifting her 7th AYC trophy in emphatic style once again.

Interestingly, it was Nigeria and Senegal that set the ball rolling at the AYC two weeks ago in which the Flying Eagles edged the tournament opener.

Going into Sunday’s game, the Flying Eagles had vowed to complete a double but the Senegalese who were making the finals for the very first time promised to turn the tables against Nigeria in the final MATCH.

Matching their words with action it was the hosts that enjoyed the earlier attacking foray with the likes of Ndiaye and El Hadji Niang both taking a go at Flying Eagles goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo who was in good form on Sunday.

But despite Senegal initial aggressiveness, it was the Flying Eagles that took the lead in the 19thminute when Bernard Bulbwa justified his late inclusion in the starting line-up with a wonderful goal that is in contention for goal of the tournament.

From then on the two teams huffed and puffed, chances upon chances came but it was the screamer fired in by Bulbwa that decided the game.

Before the latest title, the Flying Eagles previous AYC title were won in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005 and 2011
