It was a bad day for a Pokemon Go player who got unlucky after his iPhone fell in a baboon enclosure at Melbourne Zoo - where it was quickly destroyed by one of the primates.
The crowds at the zoo gathered watched and reacted with gasps of despair. Each time the device crunched against a hard surface by the baboon
The Pokemon Go player was one of many who flocked to the zoo on Saturday after hearing rare Pokemon could be found there - according to Fairfax.
Apparently the Pokemon player leaned over the barricade to catch a 'Pidgey' a common bird character on the game.
A visitor to the zoo from Auckland, New Zealand, said she saw the phone tumble to the ground and watched as the baboon rushed to pick it up.
'The baboon seemed pretty pleased with himself,' she said.
'He started running around and was throwing it, then another baboon came over and was grabbing at the cover.'
Zoo keepers lured the intrigued animal away from the phone and to the side of the enclosure but it was already beyond repair.
The phone's screen was smashed and the protective cover and film removed and crushed.
The new Pokemon app encourages users to go outside to catch virtual creatures with the end goal of having one of each of the 150 creatures in their collection.
Pokemon go is a location-based game that you play on a smartphone. The game is free and uses augmented reality. What this means is that when a player finds a Pokemon, the game taps into the user's camera and it appears that the user is catching the Pokemon in the real world. Players must travel outside in order to find other Pokemon
