Sir Elton John, wife of David Furnish has lost a 4-month battle to keep secret of a sexual harassment case filed against him by one of his employees he fired .
According to media, The 69 year old singer famous with the song 'sacrifice' was reported to have paid a six-figure sum in order to prevent the allegation from going public.
According to the Sun on Sunday, the case against Sir Elton was launched last August and the singer then tried to block the paper reporting its details in December 2015.
After a Central London Employment Tribunal refused his application, he took the case to the London Employment Appeal Tribunal, but his case was once again dismissed.
Finally the Court of Appeal declared the sexual harassment case to go public
A Sun on Sunday spokesman said:
This case raised a fundamental issue of a free press being able to report legal cases against celebrities with deep pockets and armies of expensive lawyers who want to keep even the fact of such litigation against them from the public.
The Sun on Sunday does not suggest the claims, which we accept were denied by Sir Elton and which were subsequently withdrawn, are true. We simply wanted to report the fact the case had been settled.
The Sun on Sunday refused to be cowed and are delighted the courts have backed our right to free speech and our readers’ right to know.
Celebrities need to know we will fight for the right to report cases lodged at courts and tribunals.
A statement from Sir Elton's lawyer Jenny Afia said:
These employment proceedings were fully withdrawn by the ex-employee who left the employment of Sir Elton John’s company in June 2015.
The claims were always strongly denied and we continue to deny them.
Sir Elton John is pleased that the former employee withdrew the claims in full and that the issue was settled in February this year.'
The star is accused of putting his hands down the trousers of his bodyguard Mr Jeffery Wenninger ,49 on two occasions while they were in a car together in 2014.
Mr Wenninger's also accused the Elton John of touching his butt and twisting his nipple saying 'get your todger out' and 'say hello to Uncle Elton'.
