Indian Couple Axe for Biscuit Worth 15 Rupees (22 US cent)
Indian couple said to members of the lowest Hindu society caste, the Dalit was killed by a shop owner on Thursday after delaying to pay for three packet biscuit they bought for their children.
According to Indian Express, the shop owner, Ashok Mishra kept shouting for the money at the couple, Bharat (45) and his wife Mamta (41) started walking towards the fields. Mishra then ran to his house nearby and returned with an axe. He hacked Bharat repeatedly and then attacked Mamta who was trying to rescue her husband. The couple died on the spot,” said Nadeem, a villager.
It was reported the couple had promised to pay Mishra their debt from their daily wages that evening.
The killing led to an outrage of angry mobs , all gathered in front of the 'Ashok Mishra' shop owner's threatening to lynch him if he steps out.
He was rescued by Indian police personnel, led by Mainpuri SP Devranjan Verma and DM P C Gupta who rushed to the village on hearing the news.
The two Dalit victims, Bharat, 45, and his wife Mamta, 41 were killed for 15 rupees (about 22 US cent) of biscuit leaving behind 3 children, two boys aged 11, nine and eight. They also had two married daughters.
